Environmental education

The challenge

Environmental lessons often arrive as a list of facts. A child can repeat that carbon dioxide warms the Earth without ever having chosen anything.

What we did

A Storyline lesson where facts do not arrive already open: objectives, causes and consequences sit behind a click, so a child who reaches the end has chosen their way through the material. The check at the end is a game about reducing pollution in a city, not a quiz on the last screen.

Project highlights

Click to reveal, throughout
Objectives, causes and consequences all sit behind an interaction. A child who has reached the end has made a few dozen choices to get there, which is the difference between a lesson and a slideshow.
A game, not a quiz
The check at the end is framed as saving a city rather than as answering questions about one, so it is the screen children want to reach instead of the one they were warned about.
